Project Engineer

Hum was founded in 2019 to make rail transportation safer and smarter.  Our products provide railroads, rail shippers, and railcar owners with the most advanced sensors for application like predictive railcar maintenance, live railcar weights as accurate as a scale, and next generation fleet monitoring tools.

Hum is now entering a growth phase as it seeks to meet the needs of its customers across multiple continents.  Hum is looking for the right people to join our team as we work to create incredible products for the world’s 2+ million railcars and trainsets.

Hum is hiring a Project Engineer to lead the application of our technology with customers.  As an early hire at Hum, this role comes with the opportunity to grow into leadership roles as we scale or continue on as an individual contributor. What you’ll be doing

Face of the Company – Hum PEs interact with customers to help them understand, utilize, and get the most out of their purchase.  This requires on-site installation supervision, troubleshooting, and customer onboarding.  Some travel (20%) will be required, including internationally.

Team Liaison – Hum develops custom products for many customers.  Hum PEs coordinate these projects by connecting suppliers, production, engineering, and the customer with what they need to know and when they need to know it.

Product Development – As the last step prior to full-scale deployment with customers, Hum PEs are instrumental in performing final product tests, troubleshooting with early adopters, and taking customer feedback back to the development team.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate product deployments with customers, including training and onboarding of new customers.
• Communicate production schedules to customers, follow up with suppliers, and package shipments for installs.
• Lead the final stages of product development by insuring customer requirements are met before products are shipped.
• Manage multiple development project schedules by working with our Engineering and R&D teams and the customer to deliver products that blow minds.
• Build out systems and tools to automate and improve task delivery.

Ideal qualities

• 3+ years of project management experience working across technical, commercial, and compliance functions to deliver results.
• Engineering degree or other demonstrated technical aptitude.
• Excellent communication and organization skills.
